In 1997, a divine vision named “Castle Rock” was bestowed upon Pastor Jon Scott Harris. Over the ensuing years, this vision crystallized as the Lord equipped him for ministry. In January 2001, Pastor Jon made the life-changing decision to dedicate himself entirely to God’s calling, leaving his business behind.
As his ministerial responsibilities grew, on March 15th, 2001, the first home Bible study took place at Golden Leaf Lane in Riverside, CA, hosted by Pastor Jon and Sister Leita. Throughout that summer, weekly Bible studies continued. On August 23rd, an organizational meeting was held with Rev. Harris, Sister Leita, Kendall McCarthy, Shelley McCarthy, and the late Rev. Bennie Clay, Rev. Harris’ godfather.
On September 6th, 2001, the first charter member meeting convened, and Rev. Harris was called to pastor Castle Rock Christian Fellowship Baptist Church. The second charter member meeting, on September 19th at the McCarthy residence, established the final 19 charter members. Castle Rock’s journey was born.
On September 23rd, 2001, Castle Rock celebrated its first worship service and children’s church at the McCarthy residence in Redlands. A divine connection with Pastor Kenneth Olive of Israel Church of God led to a generous agreement for our permanent church home.
On December 16th, after morning worship, the congregation joyfully gathered at 263 East Dumas Street in San Bernardino to visit our new sanctuary, thanking the Lord for His blessings.
With hearts full of gratitude and songs of praise, Castle Rock held its first Worship Service in its own sanctuary on December 23rd, 2001, just three months after the very first worship service. Our journey had begun, thanks to the grace of the Lord.
Giving back, paying it forward
In March 2002, with God’s blessings, Castle Rock underwent extensive renovations, presenting a newly refurbished home to the community. The inaugural celebration, featuring a month-long festivity and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marked a fresh chapter in our journey.
Deep within God’s plan lay a special commission for Castle Rock – the launch of two more locations to serve His people. In May 2011, our High Desert location was established, followed by the return of Pastor Harris to his hometown, Riverside, with the launch of the Riverside location in December 2012.
In 2016, following prayerful consideration, we concentrated our resources to strengthen the Riverside location. While we had our last High Desert service on April 24th, our Outreach ministry in San Bernardino concluded on June 15th. In its place, Castle Rock continues to serve the community through our unique “Lunch on Jesus” door-to-door feeding ministry and by providing free hot meals at another San Bernardino location. We are here to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we serve.
